so recording is all done and people for the most part are out of my house... it's an odd feeling having it to myself again. anywhos, i'm headed over to adrienne's new house in a couple of minutes to pick her up and go to dinner at panera. i'll come back here afterward to clean up a bit and set up my stuff for living here for the next few weeks before leaving again.speaking of leaving and hartford stuff... my hartford blog got marked as a spam blog today, and i had to request review in order for it to be opened back up again. lame. i guess it's a good thing i haven't sent out that email yet, letting people know about my adventures and whatnot. will do that in a couple of days when it's back online...

so death cab has matured so much as a band, but a lot of it has to do with gibbard at lead. it feels like he's finally discovered that he has a voice. also, the lyrics to their new songs are so much better, a lot of times when listening to transatlanticism i think to myself, "wow, he could honestly sing... anything... and it would go" but this cd, the lyrics feel well placed and intentional. just as on the opening track:I descended a dusty gravel ridge

before i begin my dissertation on jean shorts... let me first start off with the fact that i'm so excited to see death cab on may ninth. so excited in fact that i've even been watching every single live death cab video on youtube that i can find. it's quite the experience. i can't wait to see them. here's another video.

i know many musicians i'm friends with aren't a big fan of him, but i love john mayer. he's such a freakin' phenomenon in so many ways. it's crazy. but i do love his music. now. i used to hate him. i did. i didn't have a good reason. i did though.but there's something about his continuum album that drew me in... it was actually music. and then i listened to his older stuff. music. i didn't realize that. i guess he dropped out of berkeley for a reason.
so he's got a new single out and it's pretty good. very catchy. great build. sounds capo'd but on the vid of him playing it, he's playing some stuff on the second fret... so maybe 2 guitar parts... or he's muting... but anyways. very well put together. i think he's finally arriving... maybe superbowl material in a few years?

i'm pretty sure none of them have played the superbowl. i'm kind of sick of it being all old men. petty was okay. he's old. prince was great, but they leveled the mix entirely wrong... but still... old. and i don't know why they chose someone like him over a janet jackson... even with a "wardrobe malfunction" a lot of his stuff is way more risque... albeit, better music.
anyways, enough with my rant. off to bed. so let me know who you think should play next year.

i was listening to this song the other day, and meditating on the perspective it posed. the lyrics are sweet. the version that third day does is really powerful, and while i can't pretend to come close to the sheer magnitude of their performance, i felt the need to do something different with it. this also took me about 4 hours total to finish, but i did it in separate sessions. it's the first one that i actually played drums for, and i realized that my playing style on drums doesn't mesh well with how i want to play guitar, so i had to sorta piecemeal some stuff... it came out okay i think. let me know how you feel.I am a thief, I am a murderer

so it's been forever since my last post. and it feels like forever since i finished this. i did it right after i finished ironic. this one only took me about 3 hours to lay down all the tracks and finish it. most of the percussion done is actually a plastic cup.i apologize ahead of time, some stuff in this is off, but overall it's decent. i'm a big fan of the ryan adam's style... one time through and it's done, regardless of whether or not it's perfect. although, he gets it all pretty perfect, cuz he's amazing. anyways, maybe with practice i'll be... an eighth as good... on drums.
oh yea, happy new year. and merry christmas. here's the song.

this song took me about 4 hours to record and finish. i'm proud of it.

music i like
bjorkthere's always so much more to her music every time i listen to it. it's a new experience every time... always dictated by the mood i'm in, and always changing the mood i'm in. her music makes me anxious mostly. sometimes it makes me miss my friends. other times it's unpredictable. her live performances though... i don't know... they're always cool conceptually, but she bounces on stage and moves like a poorly programmed robot... her albums are sweet though.

i discovered deathcab on the crux of their transatlanticism album quite accidentally. but their music is one of the largest driving forces for me wanting to make music, and enjoying music. i listened to plans over 200 times when it came out. i'm still not sick of it. every time i hear ben gibbards voice singing over the stereo i can't help but think that maybe i could do what they do. they're so extraordinarily ordinary.

what is this guy besides amazing. my friend dan says he was once part of an islamic cult. if that's what it takes to play over 40 instruments and be a freaking genius, sign me up. dan could be lying though. he's italian like me.

they're all so talented, and still so talented when they're drunk. a few years ago i asked a friend (who didn't even really listen to them) "hey, what songs should i listen to if i want to get into dave matthews band?" foolish decision. they're amazing. and carter beauford (BOW-ferd) is my hero. well... my mom is. but he's close. very close.
